Headway - Life After Brain Injury

The effect of brain injury on me

Today I want to talk about the effects of brain injury on myself.

I feel at the start that I have been robbed of the important thinks in your life, such as the memory of my children and them growing up, doing every day things like cooking, hovering, using the washing machine and things like that. We take these things for granted in everyday life.

The next thing was reading, I could write and spell some words but I could not read. Again this is an essential thing in your life for reading bills prises in shops, letters and so on. So just imagine going into a shop and not being able to do this.

The next thing is meeting people and one not recognising them and not remembering their names, this I found very frustrating.

So all I can say at the end of all this is do not take every day thing for granted and enjoy every day with your family and take a little time to thing off all these things and how you would feel if it was you.

Where I am now, I am at about 80% at reading I am back doing all the cooking and house work and I find I am getting better at remembering names and recognising people when I meet them. I have to thank Headway and My Husband Denis for this and for giving me back my independence and confidence. So you see there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
