My name is Alan, I've been attending Headway for three years. Recently I have been getting the bus into town from Headway instead of a taxi so that I can be more independent. At the start I was a bit nervous in case something would go wrong, for example if I got off at the wrong stop or got on the wrong bus. At the beginning a staff member from Headway travelled with me to give me the confidence and reassure me that there was no need to worry.
In the last few weeks I have been doing this on my own without a member of staff. As time goes on I find this easier and I feel more comfortable with myself. I really enjoy this as it give me more independence and a sense of reality. I am beginning to interact socially with people outside of Headway.
