Table Quiz Success
Posted on March 15, 2011 by Martina C
Well since my last blog there has been a lot going on. Myself and Deirdre from Headway decided to run a fund raiser on brain injury week. We held a quiz in the Round Towers club in Clondalkin.
We put a lot of work into it doing up leaflets posters getting the info put into the Towers newsletter, answer sheets and my Husband Denis did up all the questions, getting raffle tickets and of course getting the spot prices for the raffle. People were very generous and we had a Hugh amount of spot prices.
The effect of brain injury on me
Posted on February 15, 2011 by Martina C
Today I want to talk about the effects of brain injury on myself.
I feel at the start that I have been robbed of the important thinks in your life, such as the memory of my children and them growing up, doing every day things like cooking, hovering, using the washing machine and things like that. We take these things for granted in everyday life.
The next thing was reading, I could write and spell some words but I could not read. Again this is an essential thing in your life for reading bills prises in shops, letters and so on. So just imagine going into a shop and not being able to do this.
If you meet us in the street...

Hi all long time no blog. Hope you all had a great Christmas and I wish you all a Happy New Year. I only have a few months left in Headway. I will miss the crack we have on a daily basis and the stories.
I cannot remember when I first started in Headway, it is nearly two years ago but I notice a big difference in what I can do now. It is nice to be back reading being able to use the computers, doing work on memory exercises which I had and still have a problem with, but not as much as I did in the past.

Martina's Blog: Update
Posted on November 22, 2010 by Martina C
Just an update on what is happening. Things have settled down now which is great. It has made me think about the things I have done since joining Headway a year and a half ago, I am back using the computer again back reading and writing, doing memory work, back to work and health and fitness.
I have done media training; I have had the opportunity to go on telly, radio and interview for the newspapers. I have been involved with the National Advocacy Group that goes to Cork and Limerick and Manor Street in Dublin. All of these things are great for my confidence and helped me in meeting people on a daily basis.

Hi everybody today I am going to write about Headway.
The people that go to Headway have suffered some sort of brain injury. These are caused through some of the following, Strokes, brain tumours, heart attacks, car accident evens falls. I find talking to people that attend Headway very helpful in helping me deal with what happened to me.
I have be going to Headway for one year now and I feel with the help I have received on a daily basis had brought me back to reading and working on ways to remember things. Going to Headway gives you a purpose to get up every day and get a routine into your life.
Peter's Blog: How dysphasia has affected my family
Posted on July 05, 2010 by Martina C
In this entry l would like to talk about how my acquired brain injury has affected my family. I am married with a wife and 3 children. I suffer from dysphasia.
Dysphasia is a condition where a person cannot communicate what they want to say. They have difficulties with reading, writing, spelling and speech. This happens as a result of damage to the left hand side of the brain. The commonest cause of this, is a person suffering a stroke, it can also result from any acquired brain injury or dementia.
l am currently receiving Speech & Language therapy in Peamount Hospital on a weekly basis, which l am finding very good .
