Current Research at Headway

Examples of previous and currently ongoing projects include:

  • An investigation into ABI clients' perceptions of their mental health needs and experiences;
  • An examination of the relationship between brain injury severity and measures of premorbid functioning;
  • A large-scale study examining attention and distractibility difficulties among ABI clients and methods for rehabilitating these (funded by the Health Research Board Ireland, in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin);
  • Developing a multiple errands task for use in community neuropsychology settings (funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences);
  • In Cork, currently ongoing research projects include an evaluation of a family and carer ABI education group, as well as a study examining the relationship between the community integration of individuals with ABI and the perceived acceptance, perceived severity and perceived stigma of their brain injury.
