Report highlights pressing need for national injury prevention body
17 Feb 2009
A newly published report by the Traumatic Brain Injury Research Group, has identified the need for a national injury prevention body. The report, authored by Jack Phillips, consultant neurosurgeon has many recommendations including the creation of an injury surveillance register and the implementation of a national "fall and fracture strategy".
"We have learned a great deal from this project. We conclude that there is a pressing need to establish a national injury surveillance register and a national injury prevention body with similar powers to the Road Safety Authority and Health and Safety Authority to deal with injury prevention. Finally a national trauma registry is required to provide on-going monitoring of national service provision."
