Charity Bike Ride Success
7 Jul 2009
Led by Kevin Daly of Ballincollig Co. Cork, a team of 13 cyclists took off for Killarney from Cork County Hall on the morning of Saturday June 27th in aid of raising funds and awareness for the Headway training centre in Cork. The cyclists were met at County Hall by the Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Derry Canty as well as Headway staff and clients. Kevin and his team have been in training for months to tackle the 55 mile trek and have managed to raise over 3,500 euro for Headway so far in donations and sponsorship of their efforts, with money still coming in. More important to Kevin however was the look of delight on the faces of the Headway clients who made the trip down to Killarney that morning in order to be there for the cyclists at the finishing line:
"When I saw the lads waiting at the Gleneagles Hotel as we cycled up I would have happily gone another hundred miles for them right there and then. The enjoyment they got from the day was worth all of the hard work and effort".
Carol O'Brien, Rehabilitative Training Manager at the Headway centre in Ballincollig, Co. Cork, was also there on the day: "The day was a huge success and everybody inolved in the organisation of the cycle put in a huge amount of time and effort. Everyone at Headway is so appreciative of what has been achieved by Kevin and his friends and we would like to say a big thank you. Obviously times are tough at the moment and fundraising efforts like this are so important to keeping our services going. Above all everyone involved had great fun and we hope to have more events like this very soon."
