Ambassador Glen Sings out for Brain Injury
12 Feb 2010
In the run up to Brain Awareness Week 2010 ( March 8th to 15th) Headway, the national association for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), have announced that they are to welcome Glen Power of Irish pop act The Script as their newest brain injury ambassador.
Joining the current face of Headway, Ireland's top mentalist Keith Barry, Glen pointed out that while most people think a brain injury will never happen to them, he is the living proof that ABI can hit you anytime and anywhere.
"I was just out having a good time with friends" said Glen, "the next thing I was in a hospital needing to learn basic skills again. I'm lucky to be where I am today and am so glad to be able to help Headway spread the word about brain injury and the services that are available out there".
Although Keith Barry has never had a brain injury himself he understands the power of the brain and the need to protect and keep it safe. "I am a mentalist" said Keith, "I make a living out of my brain. Between that and my recently family experience, I am more committed than ever before to making sure as many people as possible know about the amazing work Headway do in Ireland. I am delighted that Glen has come on board too and between us we'll do everything we can to raise awareness of brain injury".
Kieran Loughran, CEO of Headway pointed out that with an estimated 30,000 people living with ABI in Ireland at the moment, it is more important than ever to get people thinking about keeping their brains safe and healthy. "A brain injury can happen instantly, as Glen himself knows, and can dramatically change your ability to live your life within seconds. Headway is extremely lucky to have Keith and Glen on board empathising with brain injury and raising awareness for us and we look forward to working closely with them both in 2010."
