Headway - Life After Brain Injury

Headway Programme shortlisted for award

23 Mar 2010

Headway's centre in Limerick were thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Innovations in Neurological Services award, the winners of which were featured at the conference during Brain Awareness Week: "The Future for Neurological Conditions in Ireland; Innovations and Solutions".

The Headway Limerick Pilot Bridging Programme helps people with an acquired brain injury (ABI) to overcome barriers accessing mainstream work or training. It is truly innovative in that the programme was conceived and designed principally by people with brain injury working in conjunction with Headway specialist resources and with the involvement and collaboration from a wide range of other stakeholders. The success of the programme was assured in large part due to the commitment from organisations that included the HSE, FAS, Limerick City VEC, University of Limerick and the JP McManus Charitable Foundation. To date the programme has achieved remarkable outcomes including a 100% FETAC certification success for clients at levels 3, 4 & 5.

Headway Limerick service user, Michelle Purcell (pictured) spoke at the awards ceremony about the programme and what it meant to her.
