Headway - Life After Brain Injury

Cork Bikers Rally to the Cause of Brain Injury

30 Aug 2010

The Cork Lions Club Bikers Rally in aid of Headway took place yesterday. Liz Owens, Headway Regional Coordinator was there.

"I met with the organizers in Youghal to see the event off. What a fantastic sight it was to see in excess of 100 bikers participating to raise funds for Headway's services.

The Bikers undertook a grueling 110 mile journey from Youghal to Dungarvan, Cappaquin, and into Lismore where they met some of the Headway clients as well as some of the Lions Club members who provided refreshments. Then it was on to the Clarion in Cork city with the bikers travelling through Dungourney. The sight and the noise of the Bikers coming back into the Port of Cork Car park was breathtaking -Lions Club members and Paula, Aoife, myself and some clients and families from Headway were there to welcome them home.

All participants then enjoyed the burgers and disco on the boardwalk where a draw for a bikers helmet worth €500 and some other spot prizes took place.

The amount of time and effort that went into the organization of the event was huge and I cannot thank Declan Moon enough. He took complete charge of the event and did not leave a stone unturned in ensuring the safety of everyone involved. A huge "Thank You" must also go to Cork Lions Club who put Headway forward as a worthy recipient of this events fundraising. Thank You especially to Cork Lions Club President, Teresa Dineen and all of her team who turned out in great force and worked hard on the day to make the event go smoothly. There were many others including An Gardai, Fire Services, St. Johns Ambulance etc involved and their support is also hugely appreciated by all at Headway."
