Headway - Life After Brain Injury

Pedal Power for Brain Awareness

Matthew Makes it to the Med - nearly!

See Matthew's photos from his marathon cylce from Nenagh to the South of France where within an agonising 100 miles of his destination his knees finally gave up.

Says Matthew:

"The cycle was a brilliant experience and tested both my physical and mental abilities. It was not just the cycle but having to find campsites and food after 10 hours on the go was also a bit of a challenge and then to see everyone relaxing by their campervans the following morning when I was packing up the tent created a few moments of 'what am I doing'! But I had a great trip and raised some money for a worthwhile charity"

We are delighted with his efforts and on behalf of all of us at Headway, we'd like to say a huge thanks for the effort!

From Nenagh to the Med

Tipperary dweller Matt Finch is oiling his saddle ahead of a mammoth bike ride from Nenagh to the Mediterranean this July in aid of Headway, the National Association for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). With the aim of covering a gruelling 1250km in just a week, Matt is looking for eight companies to come on board and donate €200 each to support his solo effort to raise awareness of brain injury and helmet safety in Ireland.

"A brain injury can happen in an instant, to anyone at anytime", says Matt. "Headway provides rehabilitation programmes that help bring someone back towards normal life, stabilising things for them and their family. Your money will go directly to helping the people on the ground who need it, so please give generously...it could be any of us needing Headway tomorrow."

Kieran Loughran, CEO of Headway, has thrown his full support behind Matt's effort to not only raise funds for brain injury but to promote the importance of helmet safety while cycling, "The generosity of spirit shown by people like Matt never ceases to amaze me. We can never emphasise enough the need to protect your head while cycling and playing sport and are very grateful to Matt for helping to drive this message home."

Donations can be made by contacting Teresa McGee in Headway on 018102066 or by logging on to MyCharity.ie link http://www.mycharity.ie/event/matthew_finchs_event/

Matt will leave Nenagh, Tipperary on July 7th and hopes to reach the Mediterranean a week later.
