Studying Brain "Tsunamis" to prevent further damage

New Research published in the Lancet, by Kings College London and the University of Cincinnati has investigated the pheomenon of "cortical spreading depolarizations", otherwise known as "brain tsunamis." These waves of destructive brain activity occur after an initial injury to the brain and can result in further additional loss of brain function. The research hopes to be able to promote a greater understanding of how to prevent and treat the phenomenon and prevent further damage from occurring.
