What we did for National Carers Week 2012

26 Jun 2012

National Carers Week was on from the 18 - 24 of June.

It was a week in which to show family carers how much they are valued and appreciated. We marked the week with events in Dublin and Cork.

Also, a Headway family carer, Frances Mansfield, spoke to Senators and TDs at a Carers lobby event in Leinster House, about her experiences as a carer for her husband, Pat . See here for more.

Headway's Cork Carers' Coffee Morning

On Monday 18th June, for National Carers Week, Headway staff hosted a coffee morning and fun raffle for Family Carers in our Carrigrohane Road office. It was an opportunity for us at Headway to acknowledge all the hard work family members do for their loved ones with brain injuries. One of the family carers who attended, Jean O'Connell, made the beautiful cupcakes which were enjoyed by everyone.

Thank you to Jean, to everyone else who contributed prizes, or treats, and to all the family carers who came along.

Headway's Dublin Carers' Group and Balloon release

On Saturday 16th June, about twenty-five carers came to our Dublin family members support group. We followed this with some refreshments, and a balloon release where the family members set their wishes free! We'd like to say a special thank you to the staff at BOC Gases, Bluebell who provided us with the gas for our balloons!

A big thank you to all the family carers who came to the Headway events, and to the volunteers, and Headway staff members, whose hard work made the events happen.
