15 Jul 2016

Press Release:

Thursday, 14th July 2016:  Thanks to an incredible gift from Limerick Native JP Mc Manus, Headway received the keys today to their newly acquired building on William Street. The new building, will house eight staff and serve 60 clients and their families . It is hoped that occupancy will be complete by year end.

With the move to the new offices, Headway will be able to deliver accessible services to people with acquired brain injury that include rehabilitative training, vocational training, community integration, counselling, family support and local area co-ordination enabling it to relinquish leased space on Steamboat Quay.

In a statement on the purchase of the building, CEO Kieran Loughran said:

"After a protracted process, I am delighted to see the completion of our purchase of the old AIB William Street premises in Limerick City. We owe a debt of gratitude to our benefactor JP Mc Manus who so generously gave to support our services. The new facility will enable Headway in Limerick to deliver an enhanced service to clients while reducing our overall costs by eliminating rental expenditures. This is good news for our clients and for people living with an acquired brain injury. An acquired brain injury can be the result of a number of factors, including stroke, infection or a blow to the head”.

“In order to get the building fit for purpose and accessible for all our clients , substantial renovations still need to be carried out.   I would like to appeal to Limerick citizens to help us deliver for people with ABI by donating what they can to our GET HEADWAY MOVING Appeal.  With your support,  we would be hopeful to  be in situ before Christmas.”
